Kyle is really talented. We all knew that. But I bet you didn’t know about THIS talent.
Kyle makes root beer. It’s some pretty good stuff and he’s got it down to an art and takes a lot of pride in his crazy mad skill.
He inherited all the tools and fixin’s to make the prized RB from Grandap Redd and has now permanently been given the assignment of brewing the lovely concoction for the Redd Family reunions. It’s always a hit with the Redd’s.
So, what’s that you are thinking? Oh, you want to know how to do your own? Cool! I’ll proceed to explain. It’s so easy your 5 year old could do it. Maybe.
First you need to make sure your bottles are nice and clean.
A handy dandy tool like this will help get every little speck.
In a big stock pot dump in 5lb sugar and one full bottle of RB extract. Mix well then fill up the pot with water and 1/2 tsp yeast (that you have already dissolved in a small amount of warm water). Yup, just 1/2 tsp is all you need to give it that kick.
This part is so messy and sticky, but you need to fill up all your bottles (one of these batches will fill about 18 bottles).
Next ya gotta cork it. We have a bottle capper, but we’ve used corks before. They’re actually cooler than the caps because you get that awesome ‘POP’ every time you open it.
Lastly, stack up your bottles on their sides some place cooler and dark – like your coat closet.
Now you need to wait. Like a week. Take out a bottle and test it every few days and when it gets to the right amount of fiziness for your liking, take them out, refrigerate and enjoy!
(the ‘V’ on a few of the caps means that we added some Mexican vanilla to the bottle. It was so yummy!)
The only issue we’ve ever had is exploding bottles. No joke, we lost 7 bottles this last go ‘round! We think our closet was probably a little too warm. Or maybe some of the old 7UP and Sprite bottles were too old and weak in spots. That closet will never smell the same now. That’s why we had to move – we were overcome by the odor of root beer. JK!
We just got the internet today. Happy day! So much has happened so stay tuned for new updates coming soon!

Wow that is so cool! I don't know if I would be patient enough to wait a week for my rootbeer! Fun idea though.
